SMAC--Day One

The weather definitely dominated this meet.  We got rained out three times if I remember correctly.  Rained out isn't quite the right term since it takes thunder and lightning to delay a meet but we got a ton of rain too.  The first time we went to the bus before the rain hit since the lightning came first.  Having somewhere around forty high schoolers on a hot bus is not much fun.  The coaches actually all stood around outside until the torrential wall of water chased us back on board.  Lot of wind too.  They had to pump water off the track afterwards.  We only got a few more runs in before the second weather warning.  Coach TJ kept checking the forecast on his phone and we were not optimistic about finishing the prelim events that night.

With AP testing that week, prom that Saturday, and other sports using the facilities we all wanted to get the running, throwing, and jumping done but had to consider the constraints.  We ended up deciding to come back an hour early on Saturday to finish up the events we had not managed to squeeze in.

Despite the weather, our kids worked hard with several qualifying for the next round on Saturday or placing in their events.
