the tent, protection from the sun

Another early Saturday, today we met the bus at 6:30.  However, I was amazed at how much lighter it was this time, two weeks and a half hour later.  It made a difference!  With about two dozen competitors, the kids were able to spread out on the bus and have their own space.  The trip up was uneventful.  We unloaded and headed into the stadium.  We each were banded, kids in yellow, coaches in yellow with VIP printed on them.  Spectators would wear green wristbands.  We staked out the same space as last year.  While it was nice to be somewhere familiar, once the announcer started speaking, we remembered the one problem with the seats: the speakers were right next to us and the sound system was very loud.

The day was a great one for our athletes.

All our girl throwers set personal records.  Our girl triple jumper jumped two feet farther than she has ever before.  T is only a freshman and she is already jumping over 30 feet.  Both of our guy hurdlers set season PR's in the 300H.  AC won the 1600m smashingly.  He set a meet record even.  KC finished second in the girls' 800m.  Even more amazing, she ran 700 of the 800m with only one shoe.  They did a waterfall start and another girl stepped on the back of her heel.  The slipped shoe was uncomfortable, so KC kicked it off.  RC medaled in the boys' 800m.  Both girls' and boys' 3200m relays medaled as well.

The weather was fantastic, maybe a little too nice, judging by my sunburn.  I did put on sunscreen but as usual, I missed a few spots!
