Gatlinburg, Newfound Gap, Ober Gatlinburg, and the Sky Lift
We made to our hotel with no problems. Our cottage has two rooms, a bath with a hot tube, living room, dinning room, and kitchen. We have never stayed in this one before and were quite pleased with it. We check-in and headed the Food CIty(grocery store) for some breakfast and lunch foods. Something to hold us over at night.
After putting up the groceries it's time to have some fun. Our first stop was Newfound Gap on the Tennessee and North Carolina border at an elevation of 5048 feet. It was 80degrees in Gatlinburg and only 66degrees up on the mountain. The wind was blowing just right and the sun was out, it was just beautiful!! What an awesome site to look out at the moutains and trees!! The drive up the mountain is 15 miles from Gatlinburg. With plenty of places to pull out and take pictures.
You can hike down to the stream and stick your feet in the ice cold water if you like. Our second stop was Ober Gatlinburg. It's a ski resort in the winter. The season here ends at the beginning of March. After taking the gondola up to the ski lodge you can go ice skating, snow tubing, skiing, snowboarding, or do the alpine slide. It's a nice place for families and they do have live black bears that you can see too.
Our third stop was the Sky Lift. It's located in downtown Gatlinburg. At the top you get your photo taken. Mike and I have been doing this for the past six years. Today's picture turned out great. The sun was out and it was nice and warm. We have been up here before and it has been cold, cloudy, and rainy.
We stopped in town and got a bite to eat at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
