Martha's is a small guesthouse (10 rooms) located at 10 West St., San Ignacio, Belize.  The room rates run from $40.00 to $75.00 per night.  Rates are available for the week or month. All the locals refer to this town as Cayo. So don't get confused the political district of this area is Cayo.  This is a few steps away from the post office and easy walking distance to the downtown area, the market and the Macal River. All rooms are above a small restaurant.  All rooms have private baths, large closets, small frig, coffee maker, Cable TV, fans or AC. The entire top floor is a suite that comfortable sleeps 4 with a small kitchen and a large private balcony. There is a same day laundry service. This service is not cheap at $15.00 US per load for wash, dried and folded.

however, it is next day and they do an excellent job. There are a common living room and balcony. I have stayed here 3 times. The first time was in the early in the 1990's. I prefer the top floor suite. This is a very large room with an even larger balcony with great views of the city and mountains.  On my last visit the owners were in the process of building a second facility of studio apartments. I have stayed at 3 other facilities in and around Cayo. Martha's for me is the best value by far.

Martha's maintains at least 8 tour packages that include Maya ruins in Belize and Guatemala, canoe or tubing trips, visit to butterfly and iguana habitats. I have included their listings. I highly recommend using this tour service for the Carocol and Tikal Maya Ruin trips.
Yaxha
The Carocol trip requires a police escort in and out of the site, which restricts your time on site to about 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. If you are with a tour this restrictions do not apply. The trip to Tikal has had some incidents of highway robbers from the Belize boarder to the Maya ruin of Yaxha. Being with a tour is likely to reduce your exposure. I have made this trip on my own 6 times with no problem. ("knock on wood")  However, I have read an account and heard of other highway robbers along this road. My last trip was 2002. Things may have improved.
