Hotel Hacienda is a small recently remolded hotel at Sunyaxcnen 40, Cancun. The rooms are basic with 2 beds and a small tile bath. There is a pool and a small restaurant on site. This is the lowest priced hotel anywhere in Cancun. This hotel is not on the beach. I have stayed here on two occasions and was completely satisfied. On my last visit, the management reported a major remodeling to include a new larger restaurant, expansion of the lobby and wireless internet. I paid around $55.00 per night for a 3 night stay. I want to mention a youth hostel, Deportiva Juvenil just past the 3 Km marker on Kukulacan Boulevard. I have stayed at this place more than a dozen times. The rooms are dorm type and single sex, clean and cheap.
There are a number of day trip activities that you can make out of Cancun City. There is an archaeological museum, boat excursions to Isla Contoy, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. There is snorkling and SCUBA trips out of Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. Maya ruins that could be reached in a day trip from Cancun City includes El Rey, Yamil Lu'um, Tulum, Coba, Xel ha and Xcaret.
