Linz, Austria
So, late on Thursday evening, the train pulled into Linz Bahnhof at around 6pm. The sun was out, and all the commuters and students from Wien jumped off and raced out of the station. Me and Oliver were looking around like headless chickens. We made our way down to the tram system below, wondering where the hell we were meant to go. I had brief instructions on my hostel details, but they wernt to helpful. A young Austrian came up to us and help us. She was actually travelling our direction and showed us the way. So we got onto the tram 2 towards SolarCity and got off a couple of stops later at WiFi (not as in wireless internet, but as a dog does a poo, you call it a.... you get it...london joke!)
So we reached our hotel..yes A hotel.
Friday 4th May.
Morning came. And so did breakfast. A proper breakfast. Well, I had cereal, some rolls and juice and a much needed cup of tea.
No McDonalds for breakfast today. I was so happy. So, we checked out, but left our luggage there. We only had the morning in Linz, as Linz is only like a half way point for travellers who are going across Euroland. Linz is an amazing city and you may need like two days here, as we found out. But we did our best to explore the wonders of the second city, which wasn't musch to be honest. We only checked out the town and the hills around, I come to that in a bit.Linz, is going to be the Captial Culture city thing for Euroland in 2008 and Hilter's birthplace aint too far away from here, around 50km to the west I think, near the border of neighbours Germany. Also Ryanair fly here from London Stansted. Anyway....
We caught the tram back into the centre and got off at the bridge.
I noticed on the tram map if we got off at a certain stop and caught another tram (for a very cheap fee from the machines of course) and took it all the way to the end of the line, we would land up at this small train which takes us up into the hills which surround Linz. It was a must, especailly on this perfect day, the sun gleaming down, warming up etc. You get my drift. So we caught this train, up the hill, and you couldnt really get a view from it until you reached the top. We were outside Linz and in this town called Postlingberg. It was a nice small village. A nice church which had a service going on, very quiet gift shop and a viewing platform to see all down below. After a while we headed down and explore the small town centre, as seen in photos before heading back to the hotel to collect our stuff, back to the train station and caught our train to the final main stop..Prague in the Czech Republic which would take us five hours and we would get their after 8pm. We will come back to Linz...someday.
