Brno, Czech Republic
May 7, 2007
The last night was done. Another great sleep in the werid hostel which was like the haunted house down below when you first entered it. We checked out with the Russian hostel owner so looks like a zombie and it was off to the train station to catch our train to BRNO, Czech Republic's second city in the south east of the country.
You probably wondering why we finishing the tour in such a city. Well, it has an airport, and we booked a cheap Ryanair fight later that afternoon which would take us back to Stansted.
But we had nearly another three train journey to deal with first. Myself and Oliver were getting pretty tired of train journeys and be glad to get on the plane home. For great European tour was coming to an end. But in someways, I didn't want to go back to England as the next day I knew I would be working on those dam trains again! Agghhh!
So, we got our bags, got to the train, and it was busy. We found out later in the journey that everyone was going to Kunta Hora where we went yesterday to see the Church of Bones. We were sharing a cabin with a school teacher and four teenage students from a northern town in Sweden. They spoke perfect English, and Swedish, French, Spainish, and German. So many languages. Swedish people...they like there education as well as drink.
They left to see the church of bones and we spent most of the journey reading books, sewing on badges and watching on old man who came in snoring all the way until we got to Brno at lunchtime.
We got to Brno. WHat the hell is the Russian letters all about? WHy are people wearing tracksuit bottoms from teh 1970's. Why have all the old men got dirty black beards and those shifty eyes. Why is everywhere so grey and run down. All the coaches passing by as falling to bits. Everything is like as it was in the old Eastern block. Everyone kept looking us. It made us nervous. Ryanair travel brouchure from the internet said something about a nice catherdal and the people make you very welcoming to the second city. Like hell, we wanted to get out of there. After spending so much time getting information, getting our bus tickets, getting a local police man to point us in the right direction of a so called bus station which was pass the brand new TESCO supermarket (they are getting everywhere!)....it went on and on.
I didn't like this city. We eventually got on our bus after a chat with a werid local girl and her baby, who wern't Czech, and couldn't speak an European language. We landed at the BRNO airport a little bit early. Good job too, if it is that hard to find a bus, it is good enough to allow some time.
On the approach to BRNO airport, the main terminal building is brand new. It was like this black silver typed shell which was the design of the building. It was quite impressive. SO was inside. But when it was checking in time, the thing which you put your bags on didnt work, and I had to climb onto the belt and put it in the queue with other bags which were going onto the planes.
So that was basically it. A long wait in the departure lounge, and our flight came early and we landed at Stansted early.
This was a good trip. An real eye opener. I would go back to some of these places, Wien, Praha, Balaton, Slovenia. Not Pula, been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I met a lot of good people, not many bad people. I would spend more time in these places. This was to get a feel for the place. And what a great feeling it was too. I hope you enjoyed reading this blogs, as much as I put these together and taken photos of it, and I be happy to read your comments.
P.S Before you asked, Yes, I wish Olga was here to experience this, and I did miss her. Ya tebya lublu Olya. xxxx
