Vaduz, Liechtenstein
The first thing I noticed when walking into the Vaduz area is the Vaduz castle on a mountainside overlooking the city (or a hamlet in my case!) We couldn’t visit the castle as it is still lived in by the royal family of Liechtenstein. The flag of Liechtenstein (Blue and red stripes with a crown in the top left hand corner) was flying, which meant the prince was at home. Oh well, we carried on further into the heart of Vaduz where we did a bit of shopping and brought our passport stamps from the tourist office for €2 (or 3CH)
It was time for Ollie to find his McDonald’s of Liechtenstein as he tries to have a McDonald’s meal in every country possible (so far unlucky on Vatican City and has to go back to Turkey as he has no photographic proof of this). We did see a sign entering Vaduz that the only McDonald’s in town was 3000m away along the main road. It took us nearly forty minutes to walk it, and was well over 3000m in distance. It felt like we walked around 10km. But we found it and another distinguishing meal was to be had.
After the fast food, we looked at the time and we had around three-four hours of daylight left until the sun set. So we caught bus 21 from a nearby bus stop on the side street to go to Malbun which is 1,600m high up in the alpine region of Liechtenstein.
