Wine Tasting & Carnaval!

Since Brett had been working in Taiwan the last few weeks, he had no food in the house so we opted to make a quick stop by the grocery store since everything would be closed on Sunday. Wow..was that a bad idea! I went straight for the cheese and wanted to stay there all day perusing the yummy Goudas and various other Dutch cheeses. Ironically, my favorite cheese which is Dutch (Vlaaskaas) they did not have. :-( We picked up a few cheeses, some other necessities and we were on our way...well, almost! We stopped by the liquor and wine store that is attached to the grocery to scope things out. We spotted a room open which looked like they were doing wine tasting. Ooooooooooooooo! One of the employees came and chatted with us and we talked wine for quite a bit.
Once we arrived, it was definitely time for a nap since I had less than 3 hours sleep in the last day. After a couple hours of rest, it was already time to get up and ready for Carnaval. I was excited but a bit nervous since I didn't know what to expect. We were meeting Ryan and Melissa who are also fellow TB's I met at Brett's Bday Bash and on the big NYE meet up as well. We were meeting them for dinner and a bit of bar hopping.
After taking over an hour to get ready, I was finally ready to roll! Always the procrastinator, I bought stuff the night before I was leaving! James (Pearcetoyou) and Lynn (bluemoonadventure) helped me pick out a beautiful masquerade mask, a boa, and some cool fake eyelashes with rhinestones. I was bringing a black dress and figured that would be enough to wear. While we were shopping though, I spotted the most perfect hat for Brett! As he was one of the OG members of the first Chicken Forum, it was perfect. It was a crazy looking chicken hat! I had run to Lynn and James in the store to show them and made James wear it for photo purposes as well - he is one of the masterminds of this Chicken stuff in the first place! Add to the hat, gold beads with a rubber chicken attached, and we were good to go!
After unveiling the chicken hat to Brett, he took it with great stride and threw it on his head with his judge's type robe and the Judge of the Chickens was ready for Carnaval.
We arrived to the restaurant right at 7pm and most of the group was already there. I knew 4 of the people there (Ryan, Melissa, Joe, and Matt) but everyone else were new to me. One of the girls Lorraine was sitting across from me and dressed really cute with a bright red feather in her headband. The tables had candles on them and everything happened so fast but she leaned in to say something to someone at the end of the table and the feather went up in flames instantly. I am still not sure how she was not injured but she managed to get it off right away. We were pinned in the other side of the table and couldn't have gotten out if we tried since the tables were so tight against the wall but Matt was there to help her thank heaven.
After dinner, Ryan and Melissa went home and the rest of us traveled down the street of bars, which I can never remember the name of! It was unbelievable crowded and after getting crushed a few times and unable to breathe, Brett and I cut down a side street. I was ready to go but didn't want to leave without saying goodbye so we tried a different street to get up and it was much less crowded.
