I traveled from Stuga, Macedonia to Tirana, Albania by bus. A challenging adventure. Alot of what you read about Albania.....well, it's true. It's a struggle at times but, there are gems to be found in this part of the Balkans that is like no other. If you can handle the troubles, the reward it great.

Roads and Drivers and Bus Temperature, OH MY!!!

Now,I've read about the terrible road in Albania (worst in Europe). Albania also has the bad drivers (worst in Europe by death from car accidents). I hadn't experienced the former but, I had been continuously frightened out of my witts by the latter.

Leaving Elbasan, we take a smaller rural road. OMG! Every few yards we swerve left or right or stop and crawl through massive potholes. Of course this is the case whether there is pavement or not, as there isn't consistent pavement. This is only made worse by the speed limit of 60 km/hr between cities and 40 km/hr in cities. This is going to take forever.

Then there is the bus ventilation system. There seemed to be only 2 settings, full blast (Finish sauna) or off (Finish winter). I just wanted to jump from the moving bus. I did stay on because I felt that from what I had seen so far of Albania, the only possible careers here could be trash collection or construction worker, as it seems that there is a great need for both.
