Eens een hele nieuwe hoek in en wel rondreizen door de Baltische Staten en daarna de reis afsluiten met een bezoek aan Sint Petersburg. // A completely different corner of Europe going to the Baltic States and finishing of in St. Petersburg Russia.

Bezoek aan het Rundale paleis // Visiting the Rundale palace

Verder rijdend bereikten we rond half vier de grens met Letland. Hier werden de restanten litas (Litouwse munteenheid) omgewisseld in lats (Letse munteenheid) en konden we ongehinderd onze weg vervolgen.

In de buurt van Bauska bezochten we Rundāle Paleis. Dit paleis is ontworpen door dezelfde persoon die het winterpaleis in St. Petersburg heeft ontworpen dus zo kregen we alvast een voorproefje. Door ietsje meer te betalen mocht je ook binnen fotograferen en dat laat ik me natuurlijk geen twee keer zeggen.

Around 3.30 pm we reached the border with Latvia. Here we could change our remaining litas (Lithuanian currency) into lats (Latvian currency) and we could proceed without any border checks. It is a lot easier now these countries are part of the European Union.

In the neighbourhood of Bauska we visited the Rundāle Palace. This palace was designed by the same person who designed the Winterpalace in St. Petersburg so we were given a little taste of what was still ahead of us. If you bought an extra ticket you were allowed to take photos inside the palace so that’s what I did.
