A shop in the shopping arcade under the train station, silly/cute dresses for dogs
went to the hotel where mom and dad were staying and went to the train station together in a taxi to take our bullet train to Beppu
. got to the station pretty early so we changed to an earlier train. bought some bento at the station to eat on the train for lunch. it was less than 3 hours to Hakata
. Then we changed train to Beppu, after again changing to an earlier one. Then we found out we should have gotten tickets to change at Kokura instead of Hakata, since the second train went back to Kokura! that would have saved us maybe 1 hour of travel. I wonder why they got us to change at Hakata? maybe because it was the trainee at the JR ticket office? I also had to deal with the credit card company because they suspected fraud and put a hold on my card after JR tried to charge me a second time to correct the mistake in the first time. In any case, we got to Beppu about 5pm and took a taxi to the onsen. We had pretty nice rooms with private toilet but shared bath down the hall, one indoor one and an outdoor hot spa bath. Dinner was quite an affair with 10 courses, served in the room, it was very tasty, and took almost 2 hours. After dinner we all had a bath, soaked a little while in the hot pool and then it was sleepy time.
