Bustling Busan
May 29, 2009
We arrive in Busan after a short 35 flight from Fukuoka. From the air, we could see the tall buildings lining the river and coast. The taxi ride from the airport to the hotel was a long one, and we had a good look at the bustling Busan. Traffic jams, rows and rows of tall (20-30 story) apartment buildings going up the hillsides, a long double decker bridge spanning the bay, and hotels at the beach. Dinner at the hotel buffet was very good, with windows looking out to the beach, However, the atmosphere in the restaurant was less than ideal, many people and kids pushing their way around, and taking loads of food from the buffet as if there is no tomorrow. Fresh squeezed orange juice cost 21000 won for two, even at the exchange rate of 1230 won per dollar was still pretty steep. After dinner I took a walk down the beach and saw the setup for the Busan International Dance Festival starting in a couple of days, and sand sculptures for the Sand Festival. People walking along the beach, some venture into the waves, it was a nice place to enjoy the evening.
