Herb Sunday - one week till Easter.. Let's say "Hi" to Spring!! :)
April 5, 2009
Most
of the spring holiday - Easter - usually celebrated in April, and the
last Sunday before it is Palm Sunday, Verbinės in many European
countries, known as Palm Sunday. This
is Christ's decent to enter Jerusalem before suffering memory. The
Gospel says that the highest respect for the Jewish Messiah is paving
the crowd to him under the feet of palm branches from the shoot: "Honor
to those who came on behalf of the Lord!" Yet
our age at the beginning of the Eastern Highland churches had a custom
of the day, in a procession around the church after the priest bearing
the Sacrament Švenčiausiąjį feet lay osier twigs.
According to Catholic church liturgy palm blessing started in early V century. For Lithuanians herbs - the revival of vegetation, the natural symbol of life force. Other indoeuropean culture people also rely on the spring, spray blessing springing buds.
Vilnius Old Town was full of people.. Everybody is happy, the sun is shining brighty..What else we need more to spend nicely Sunday afternoon...
