Snorkling at the Great Barrier Reef
Rain Rain and Rain!!! The idea was going to the beach and get a color before I go to New Zealand, but I have to change my plan I guess.
About 8.30am we had to be at the mole to get the boat the Apolly Cay. That's a small sand Island in the Great Barrier Reef. The weather was really bad so I was thinking about leaving the boat. They talked to me and said: after half an hour when we are at the sea the weather will be better.
There we go. It took about 2hours before we came at the first place to go into the sea. It was possible to go diving or snorkling. Both were totally new for me so I decided to go snorkling. The best thing was to hire a suit for $7,- because it's still jellyfish season. You have to wear the flippers and that's so heavy in the water! It was an impossible job for me.
After one minute I really had to go out of the water and get som fresh air, damn!! The other two persons were already gone but seraina waited for me, I told her to go but she didn't want to. It was heavy for her as well. Because it didn't work for me after a few times of trying we took the small boat together with another man who was really afraid. He showed us some things which was very pretty. We decided to go into the water and see it by ourself, woow! AMAZING! We went back to the boat where the lunch was waiting for us, which was delicious. Then we went to a small Island called Apollo Cay. It's just totally white and beautiful, with the beautiful blue sea. It's like you walk in a postcard or a movie which can't be real. We took the boat to the island where we put our stuff and lay on the beach, great! I really wanted to go snorkling again, but it was to heavy so I had to go by boat again, and I was just feeling terrible, it became worse because it was just too heavy.
So we just went again by boat to the place and then I saw NEMO! Great!!The way back was just terrible! The weather became worse and you could feel that. From the one side to the other side and again.. Fortunately I'm not sea sick but I was afraid as hell! So it felt like being a winner when I was back at town. But I'm really happy I did this daytrip. The name of the boat was The Falla.
In the night we took the bus to Airlie Beach. It takes 11 hours.
