The Ghan!
29 march 2009
There is no place where I stayed this day and the night since I'm travelling by train to Alice Springs. The name of the train is called: The Ghan which is really famous in Australia. The trip took 'just' 24 hours, that's how the man at the desk said. I was thinking: That's a long sit! The name is because of the people from Afghanistan and stuff. I had a seat next to the window so I could look outside.
So what did I see? How is the train? It's really beautiful and very comfortable which I did not expect. very close to me are the toilets, and I need them a lot so that's very good! The other part of the train is the dining room, where you could get some dinner, which is more expensive than in a normal shop but it was good! And at the other part of the train you could find the showers where you can get a towel as well, so really good service.
At the moment it's already 8 hours later. I've no clue where I am at the moment, but I'm sure that we are in the outback. . We have already a delay of 40 minutes, But it's oke just put my ipod on and read a little bit.

At 4am local time, or better to say 3am local time we are standing still in the middle of nowhere. A guy just went out of the train and go further by jeep. Dont know if I will ever do that but i'm sure it's great. This happened at 01.55am. There is onehour difference between Northern Territory and South Australia. I really don't know why we are standing here for more then 2 hours. Went to the dining room and sat there for awhile. Talked with some other people who were sitting there.
And in the front of me in the train there is a guy which is a little bit weird. He is laying down at the ground with his feets on he chair and making a lot of noises. that's one of the reasons I couldn't sleep.Exactly on time we arrived at Alice springs. The delay or the waiting had a good reason. If we drove further in the same speed we would arriv in Alice springs a few hours before we should arrive and had to wait too long over there. I took a really expensive taxi to the hostel which costed me $12,00. In the train I met a swiss girl who has the same flight to cairns as I do.
Oh it's really hot here, and I would love to send a little bit of sun to the netherlands! Yesterday it was about 36 degrees!
