Arrived
It is 12.15pm. At the moment I’m waiting at the airport of Abu Dhabi. When I arrived I tried to find a locker where I could put my luggage in. Unfortunately, they don’t have it. So there were 2 options.
1. Go to the city with all my luggage
2. Stay at the airport and wait for 11 hours for my next flight.
As you can see, both boring and difficult. Or you can combine them. First I took the taxi into the city.
But that was a mission impossible. I asked the taxi driver if he could bring me somewhere where you could find the old city. So NO new buildings. I guess he did not understand me and he drove me to a very new shopping mall. I did not like it at all and everything was still closed. There was no possibility to get something to drink or to do. So 15 minutes later I was outside again to take a taxi back to the airport. But on the way to the shopping mall the taxi driver wanted to drive a little slower so I could make pictures of one of the biggest mosques in the world: Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Nayhan. It was so beautiful to see, so big! Unfortunately I couldn’t visit it.
There is one big difference between Europe/North Africa and UAE. The people are not that friendly. It’s all about money as I already figured out, so that was a bit sad.
Back at the airport I found something to drink and eat and had to wait again. It was only 10 am so I had to wait another 6 hours before I could search for the check-in desk. There were 2 buildings: Departure & Arrival. I walked between both of them just to see if I had to go somewhere. But there were no desks at the Departure building. I’ve waited the whole time at the arrival building, watching people, reading a book and listen to the music. Fortunately at 4pm I could check in. A little longer of waiting and at 6.45pm we had the take off and one hour later we landed in Bahrain.
I just need to describe the departure of Abu Dhabi Airport. It’s great. Big, lot of shops, beautiful and free internet!
But first of all, the departure hall of the Airport Abu Dhabi, it's great! So beautiful and there was free internet! I was not that sure if this was the right gate so I asked someone and he said yes. I just waited and yes.. it was correct. I had to pay my visa but I did not have any currency of Bahrain, so I had to pay in Euros. But there was a men very kind and he asked if I needed money if I couldn’t pay. Everyone is so helpful. I took my luggage and walked to the exit. Daniel was already waiting for me. We took the car and drove to his house. But getting out of the parking was dramatic. It is damn busy here! After talking eating and unpacking my stuff I went to bed. Did not sleep for about 38 hours.
