Left Chiang Rai after a lazy morning looking at few temples and eating ice cream by the river. Arrived in Chiang Mai in the evening and found a guesthouse- no rats or cockroaches! We had some dinner and later went out to a couple of bars where there was some good live music. Later we went to a club, was quite good but not much of a dance floor, and doesn't get busy until 2am.

Today we walked around the city, saw some amazing old temples and later went up a big hill to a temple which had an amazing view over the city, the ride up was a bit sick making but worth it once you were up there. Went to the night market after for some more shopping, and a foot massage for less than a pound! Was good, felt like walking on air afterwards.

Set off on our treck this morning, 9 of us in the group. First we drove to the elephant camp where we rode elephants- pretty uncomfortable but fun. After lunch we trecked for a few hours to a waterfall where we could swim and after that we trecked to the Karen Tribe village where we would spend the night. Looked around the village and then had dinner. Afterwards the guide was telling us stories and doing magic- he was very good at magic! Slept in a bamboo hut, not the best nigths sleep as everytime someone moved the whole thing shook!

All awake pretty early this morning as no-one slept well and the million cockrells they seemed to keep in the village seemed to think we should get up! We trecked a few hours again and then swam- very hot so good to swim. Then after lucnh we went bamboo rafting. Was very funny as everyone just messes about, fell off etc...

Spent the last day looking at some 'craft villages'. Was interesting to see how things were made but at most of them they were just trying to seel you stuff.

In the evening I left the others and got the night bus to Udon Thani and from there the bus onto Nongkhai. Journey ok but didn't really sleep!
