The Summary
El Cedral is on Cozumel, 8 miles south of San Miguel. Once the hub of Maya life on Cozumel; was the 1st site found by the Spanish in 1518 and where they celebrated their 1st mass in Mexico. The Spanish destroyed most of the site & the U. S. military leveled all but 1 structure completing WW2 airfield. The structure is the size of a small house, faint remnants of murals remain. It was built prior to 700 AD. In the early 1900s it saw use as a jail. Cedral hold an agricultural fair each May.
