The Summary
Cuello, a small Maya site. Named after the Cuello Brothers Distillery the owners, is located (Lat 18.24 X -88.58) 4 miles southwest of Orange Walk on Yo Creek road. Permission to visit must be acquired Tel. 03-22141. This is the oldest recorded Maya site (2500 BC - 500 AD). There are 2 plazas, each with a temple, palace and civic center. Pre-classic to formative period burials have been excavated with 600 BC jade beads (source 250 miles south), the 1st example of Maya semiprecious stone use.
