Fete des Lumieres

In Lyon, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated each year with a festival of lights. There are lighting displays of all different types throughout the city. The Hotel de Ville is open for the spectacle and was my favorite display as it was the most colorful.  The other displays were amazing as well…we saw buildings being “built” and “on fire”, as well as whimsical creatures floating through the air...there was even a ballet (with people suspended by ropes) on the side of a building! The event culminates with a pilgrimage up to the basilica on December 8th and the entire event usually lasts for 4 days. It is a must see!
