I have seen Denver and a larger portion of the state of Colorado from the skies. The view at night is not so good, but in the day, it is something to behold. I have planned on several occasions to visit Denver but my tour is yet to mature on the ground. In the air however I seem to have seen much of the state of Colorado through the windows of US Airways, American Airlines and the latest being the Frontier Airlines that has taken my breath away. Besides EMIRATES, there has never been an airline domestic or International that has peeked my fancy like FRONTIER did. To be honest I never new that the airline existed until I missed my American Airline flight due to mechanical problems and had to be booked on the next day available flight - Frontier via Denver.
Denver International Airport
On Feb 11 I began my trip to Cedarburg, Wisconsin with an early morning pick-up by my friend Tim who agreed to give me a ride to the Airport. My American Airlines flight was due to leave at 12:05 pm MST. Tim had a 10:00 am meeting and decided he would drop me off at the airport earlier (9:00 am) so he could make his 10:00 am meeting. We arrived in plenty of time and I checked in my bags procedurally and sat down at the Sports Bar for breakfast. I blogged a little on TB and took three cups of coffee, ate a Farmer's omelet and had two glasses of orange juice in a span of two hours and a half.
The boarding call came in 10 minutes after the scheduled departure time because the plane had to be cleaned following an arrival from Dallas.
Denver International Airport
Everyone boarded and the pilot announced how long the flight would take and introduced our hostesses to us. Ten minutes after the introductions and announcements, the pilot tells us there is a mechanical problem that needs to be checked out and we will be on our way in a matter of minutes - can you tell where this is going? Well yes the mechanical problem proved larger than they expected and a replacement part was ordered, but it was coming in from Dallas, ha-ha-ha!
We were asked to either wait for the part to arrive in two hours and the flight would take off at about 4:00 pm or all the toll free number that the hostesses passed on to us as we left the plane to go back to the terminal. Many passengers had international flights to connect to and they were not exactly happy about the situation. I on the other hand thanked my lucky stars because I could not imagine if we had taken off and the pilot found out there is a mechanical problem while we are 30 thousand feet above. I had no emergency on either so I was happy to reschedule my flight for later or the next day. After almost 100 people went by, I finally got my turn at the counter to talk tot he AA agent. She was so nice and used quite a bit of empathy dealing with me and the many that had come before me. She gladly looked through the system to find a partner airline that would take me to my destination. Finally it was Frontier leaving the following day at 7:45 pm.
