The Summary
Ake is a post-Classic Maya ruin 19 miles east of Merida. This area was first occupied prior to 200 AD. The best preserved structure is the "palace" with rows of stone columns on top of a step-pyramid platform with a wide (135') staircase that is actually designed to be bleacher style seating. There are several examples of sacbe "white road", one run directly to Izamal to the west about 15 miles. There are the remains of a defensive wall. Ake does not receive many visitors. No vendors here.
