Fantastic Thai Food in East Honolulu
There is no shortage of Thai restaurants in Honolulu. That's why I was disappointed when a German restaurant near my home was replaced by a Thai restaurant. My sadness turned to joy the first time I ate at Maile's Thai Bistro. It is now my favorite Thai restaurant!!! That seems to be the consensus in east Honolulu because every time I go to Maile's it is packed with people.
The entrees will not be served at the same time. As they are cooked they are brought to your table. Don't make the same mistake as me and think the waitress messed up by not brining all of your food. Ooops!! Food is served up family style; all dishes are intended to be passed around and shared by the table. Maile's offers a wide variety of appetizers. Spring rolls, of course, but also soy ginger edamame, shaken beef (spicy), calamari, sauteed clams and many more. Soups and several different salads are on the menu. I love their Thai salad, just a simple romaine, onion and tomato salad but the peanut dressing is killer!!! Many curry dishes, beef, chicken, seafood and vegetarian entrees. Evil shrimp (shrimp sauteed in red curry) and thai ginger beef are two of my favorites. Don't forget to order some pad thai or thai fried rice!!!
Appetizers and entrees average about $10-$13 each. There is no dress code but it's not a t-shirt and swimwear type of place. Hawaiian shirt or polo shirt is what the men usually wear. I would recommend making dinner reservations because it's a popular place to eat. You may want to consider stopping in for lunch or my personal favorite, take-out food. Here's a suggestion - get some food to take-out and go dine at the beach (Moanalua Bay) across the street.
