Ala Moana Beach Park
May 15, 2009
Ala Moana Beach Park is a 76 acre park located on the south shore of Oahu, between Waikiki Beach and downtown Honolulu. It is located across the street from the Ala Moana shopping center. The beachfront is over half a mile long and is protected by a coral reef which makes the waters calm. Part of the park is called Magic Island. This is a great place to go if you have a small child. Magic Island has a sheltered lagoon that is watched over by a lifeguard. In this area you can find picnic areas, jogging tracks, restrooms with showers and plenty of shaded benches so you can relax and chill out.
The Honolulu Yacht Club is on the east end of Ala Moana Beach Park. In this area you may see outrigger canoes venturing out into the ocean. There is a small pond where people race their remote control yachts. You will definitely see fishermen on the shore, sometimes doing more talking than actual fishing. Watch the surfers try to catch a wave. In case you get hungry, there is a beach concession stand. You may want to consider going across the street to the food court at the Ala Moana shopping center for lunch. It'll definitely be cheaper than a lunch on Waikiki Beach.
Are you an exercise fanatic? The Ala Moana Beach Park has an exercise trail where you jog from one exercise post to another. Fancy yourself the next tennis great? Practice your game on the tennis courts at the beach park. Don't forget to leave time for doing nothing on the beach!! With so much to offer, it's no surprise that Ala Moana Beach Park is a favorite with the locals.
