Short trips to various spots in New Zealand during the summer, partly in conjunction with my good friend and visitor Marie.

Gateway to Paradise

On the way to Glenorchy. Pile of flat stones; someone left their mark in an eco-friendly way.

The plane to Queenstown taxied towards the runway ... being seated at the last row, I saw that a cabin crew member was standing outside the open loo ... as it turned out, she was helping her chundering colleague.

The plane turned back to the terminal ... the sick crew was offloaded and we waited briefly for a replacement who had been called in from the crew room.

After lunch and rest in Queenstown, Marie and I went for a drive to Glenorchy, the Gateway to Paradise ... because it leads to another town in the middle of nowhere called Paradise.

Glenorchy itself is located at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu, the lake that Queenstown is on.  Being at a pointy end of the lake, the scenery is more dramatic and was used in the Lord of the Rings movie.

Marie so desperately wanted to go to Paradise with me.  The road was bad, it was late, so we didn't.

So desperatly but Paradise was NO EXIT
At night we had drinks at the Guilty Bar. Our favourite
- Alex and I, never feel guilty about drinking but have private reasons to enjoy this name given to a pub.
