My crime you ask? Flirting with an officer
I have safely returned home from Mardi Gras, despite my best efforts to avoid leaving New Orleans (see attached picture). Ok, Ok, obviously the smile on my face gives it away - I was not really arrested. I just asked the officer if I could take a picture with him, and afterwards he asked, "I suppose now you want to be handcuffed?" Affirmative! Then he gave me his number. Hey, it's good to have local contacts because I will return some day. Anyway, I couldn't keep the smile off my face, but some of my family still fell for it. I got a panicked text from one of my sisters.
Mardi Gras was truly an experience - hard to put into words really. I had a lot of fun enjoying the parades, parties, food, architecture and parties.
..or did I mention that already. I also took in a Vaudeville act, some soul/cajun music and rented a bike one day to check out the amazing homes in the Garden district, followed by a quick tour through some very impacted areas behind the SuperDome. Talk about extremes. One local gal put it best though when one of my friend's referred to New Orleans as the "deep south." She replied, "Honey, Nawlins is an entity unto itself." That it is.
I swear I will post pictures soon (update - they're posted!), but upon driving 20 hours and returning home at 4:30 a.m., going back to work at 9 a.m., and then surviving a blizzard, I've found little time to do anything but reflect on the last week. Check back later when I've found my sanity again.
