A short 2-day layover in Salzburg and then one day in Shannon with my crew

Shannon

Around Shannon

We had only a short twenty-four hours in Shannon but we made the best of it. We decided to make a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher, with stops at Bunratty Castle and Durty Nelly’s.

The views of the Aran Islands and Galway Bay from the top of the cliffs are incredible. For those who like birds, the cliffs are said to be a haven for many varieties of nesting seabirds. The cliffs are a must see for all visitors to Shannon.

On our return we made it to Bunratty Castle. This castle was built in 1425 and is said to be the most complete fortress in Ireland. In addition to the castle, the Bunratty Folk Park and Walled Gardens are also accessable.

For cocktails and a bite to eat we stopped into Durty Nelly’s in Bunratty. It is one of Ireland’s most famous pub/restaurants and has a great selection of food and beer.

Charming Country House
The Carrygerry Country House Hotel is conveniently located near the Shannon airport, about a ten-minute ride by car. This a beautiful property that was built over two-hundred years ago. With its antique furnishings and lush gardens it’s like a step back in time.

The hotel has very nice, comfortable rooms and beds. The hotel staff are friendly and will go out of their way to accommodate you. A complimentary full Irish breakfast is served daily. The breakfast is spectacular.

In close proximty to the hotel are Bunratty Castle, the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, and the town of Limerick. In addition, there are many nice golf courses close to the hotel too.
