traveling in Canada! From Vancouver, Vancouver Island, the Inside Pasage to Alaska for one day. Through the Rocky Mountains and the prairie of Alberta to Calgary.

the road to the north

We decide to drive the 450 kilometers to Alaska today. We follow the quiet Hwy 16 for some time. The landscape is rough with forest, rivers and mountains. Just outside of Kitwanga we have lunch at the junction and then take a left onto Hwy 37 to the north, 240 kilometers to Hyder Alaska. Here the road even gets quieter, almost no more cars. This drive is absolutely incredible. We see our first bear in the grass, of course we stop to take a picture but if you want to see him on that you need very good eyesight (and a magnifying-glass). We pass bear glacier not far from Stewart, the last town in Canada before the border. v
