traveling in Canada! From Vancouver, Vancouver Island, the Inside Pasage to Alaska for one day. Through the Rocky Mountains and the prairie of Alberta to Calgary.

home away from home

Today the fun starts! A taxi takes us to Cruise Canada where we can pick up our ‘home away from home’. Our first impression is: wow this is BIG! Luckily we get to see an instruction-video because this is the first time for us driving such a huge vehicle (well… in fact honestly it will be Eric who’s driving and me enjoying the scenery). Cruise Canada provides us with a RV which is 25 feet long (almost  8 meters) with enormous pictures on the sides so the next 4 weeks we will drive around in a huge billboard of Cruise Canada.

Eric assures me it drives easily. Our first stop is at a gas station and then we look for a supermarket. Well stocked we continue towards the ferry to Vancouver Island. All goes well and in no time we’re having lunch on the boat. We’re spending our first night on the Island on a big campground just outside the city of Victoria.

Clean, small sites
We stayed for two nights at the Fort Victoria RV Park & Campground. It is situated a few kilometers outside of the city Victoria on Vancouver Island. The facilities on the park were good. There were (free) hot showers and the possibility to do some laundry at a big Laundromat, everything was nice and clean. It is a big campground with about 300 full hook-up sites (water, sewer and electricity). The sites were a bit small; on most sites was a picnic table and benches but there was just a few meters of space for sitting outside. There was no real privacy.

Just down the road is a bus stop for the bus to Victoria (so no need to drive the RV into the city).
