Wapta Falls
We are on the road again. Of course there are a few stops. Before a short side trip to Emerald Lake we stop at a natural bridge over the Kicking Horse River. Emerald Lake, like most Lakes here, it is fed by glacier water, so the water is a beautiful green color. At the Information Centre in Field they tell us about the Wapta Falls. We had to park the RV next to the main road because the road further into the woods is closed. The walk is about 5 kilometers (one way) through dense woods, so there was a lot of loud talking and occasionally clapping our hands to scare away any bears. We meet one couple coming back from the falls, assuring us that the walk is well worth it and they are right. After a nice lunch and some shopping in Golden our next goal is Glacier National Park, over the Rogers Pass where we saw an interesting exebition about the wildlife around here. We get a lovely spot on the Illecillewaet Campground, conveniently located next to Highway 1.
