traveling in Canada! From Vancouver, Vancouver Island, the Inside Pasage to Alaska for one day. Through the Rocky Mountains and the prairie of Alberta to Calgary.

Plastic dinosaurs

As we open the curtains of the RV we see grey weather and mist, despite that, we leave for the North Dinosaur Trail (a trip of about 50 km through the badlands, north of Drumheller). Just over the cityborders the mist thickens even more. Any point of interest has to be right next to the road or we’ll miss it. So after a few kilometers we give up, we can barely see the front of the RV when we park at a viewpoint over Horsethief Canyon. Back to the plastic dinos again, we quickly leave dino-heaven again. Slowly climbing a bit we happily leave the mist behind and the sun even shines (short stop at hoodoo’s). The sun is back high in the sky when we drive throught the endless fields again on straight roads through places like Dutchess, Dorothy and Patricia. At the last place we stop at the gas-station, annex store, annex restaurant to eat a hotdog. Suddenly we leave the fields behind and in front of us is the Dinosaur Provincial Park. Luckily no plastic dinos here. We pick a spot at the beautiful campground and then go see the park.

At the Dinosaur Provincial Park we camp at the North Campground. There are not a lot of fellow campers, so it is not difficult to find a quiet sunny spot. The North campground is right next to the Badland slopes, just a short walking distance to some magical sunset-places. At this time of year you have to self-register at the campground kiosk. In the high season it is highly recommended to make reservations. There is power and some of the campsites have firepits. On the North Campground there are no real facilities, just some vault toilets. But walking over a small bridge brings you on the South campground with clean hot showers.
