Maligne Lake

We have an early start, much to see today! At Maligne Canyon we park the RV and take a walk into the canyon. It’s roughly divided into an upper and a lower part. The parking is near the upper part. Walking by the canyon you pass bridges over the canyon providing a great view down to the water; Maligne River. The river flows down through the deep canyon down to Medicine Lake. Later this morning we pass Medicine Lake where during the summer the water level reduces until the Lake is almost empty.
Before lunch we get to Maligne Lake. A beautiful place; high peaks surround this deep blue Lake. A famous picture in Canada can be made here: Spirit Island. This place is only to be reached by boat. Not a cheap trip, we had to pay $ 41 per person for this trip. We sat on this boat with a large tour group from the USA (all of them well over 60). Spirit Island is not even a real Island; it is connected to the land so officially it is a peninsula. But still: a very nice picture!!
After a lovely lunch at the Lakeshore we spot our first (and only) Moose during a hike (Moose Lake Loop). At first we didn’t even see him just a couple of meters from us, only when he splashed through the water we spotted him. Of course we were too surprised to take a good picture…
