One day trip with my exboyfriend

One day trip

I will write just some general information about the highlights of Antwerp. I have been here for just one day together with my ex-boyfriend. In the early morning we drove away and arrived there like 4 hours later. It’s a short distance.

After a few hours we drove to a place at the North Sea. It’s called; Knokke.

Antwerp is a big city in Belgium. It is the capital of the Province Antwerp and there are 472.000 inhabitants. The official language is Dutch. But because there are two parts in Belgium they speak also some French. And like in the Netherlands there are so many cultures in this city, for example of Morocco, Turkey etc.

   Squares and Streets:

There are many things to see and to do.

§  The center of Antwerp is called ‘De Grote Markt’. It is the main square with the city hall, some typical houses and a   statue of Brabo. But who is Brabo? He was a mythical Roman soldier who killed a giant.

§  For shopping you have to be on the Mair. This street links the central station with the shopping centre. And maybe a plus: there are no cars over here!

   §  Chinatown.

There is a street which is very known under the Chinese people.

    Museum:

§  Hessenhuis; has been build in 1564 and situated in the north of Antwerp.

§  Museum Mayer van den Bergh; you can find here a lot of different kind of paint art.

   §  Miniature park

§  Friet museum. Because the Belgium frites are famous they made a small museum about it. It’s just one room.

    Historical buildings:

§  De Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal; It’s a cathedral in the center of Antwerp and is the main church of Antwerp.

§  Sint-Andries church; every year between 1st April until 31st of October the church and the treasure room are open from 14h until 17h.

City House

§  Sint-Jacobs church; is mostly known because of the grave of an art painter Peter Paul Rubens.

   §  Carolus Borromeus church

   §  Sint-Paulus church

    Other buildings and sights:

   §  Royal Palace

§  The Stone; it’s the oldest building and it used to be a jail. It’s situated near the river: The schelde.

   §  Central Station

§  Boerentoren;  A tower which is the first skyscraper at the European ground.

   §  Aquatopia. It’s a big public aquarium

§  Schoonselhof; a graveyard of famous people of Antwerp.

   §  The Zoo
