USS Arizona Memorial
In 2003, shortly before my husband and I got married, my Aunt Joyce and I headed to Oahu
for 8 days. We left Dallas early in the morning and headed to Honolulu
, courtsey of Delta airlines. We had a lay over in Salt Lake City, which is an odd airport. Just as luck would have it the plane from Dallas arrived at the terminal on one side of the airport and the plane departing from Salt Lake City to Honolulu was boarding on the opposite side of the airport. We pretty much had to run from one side of the airport to the other as we only had a 30 minute lay over. After our short sprint around the Salt Lake City Airport, we boarded a jumbo jet bound for Honolulu.
The Battleship Missouri
Upon arrival in Honolulu, we were greeted by my Aunt's best friend from high school and her daughter, who had graciously invited us to stay with them as well as to act as our tour guides during our stay. We arrived in Hawaii
around 4:00 in the afternoon. We were pretty much worn out on arrival as we were still on Texas time. They took us back to their house where we both fell asleep around 7:00 in the evening. The family we stayed with consisted of my Aunt's best friend, her husband, and their twenty one year old daughter and teenage son. The home we stayed in was not actually in Honolulu but instead it was in Millani. It was nice to have a personal tour guide during our trip. Thanks to our wonderful hosts we were able to go to places that were not quite as touristy as we would have probably seen on our own. We spent eight wonderful days there before having to head home to Texas. It was a wonderful experience. I hope that my husband and I can some day go back there. Although it was nice to have the hosts this time I'd like to stay in a hotel and be on our own more as we didn't get to do a few things I would have liked to just because our hosts didn't care to do it.
