Mmmm! (7-Eleven candy :) I was in a bad need for sugar rush...)

I had visited China Town last year but I wanted to go there again, so that's what I did today. It was a very hot day and in this part of town, it only gets hotter, because of the crowds and the noise, and all those smells melting together. That's why I didn't stay so long. Yet China Town is a lovely place, in all it's extremes. It is very vivid and sometimes feels a bit unreal to me. You can in no way compare it to the Europe where I come from, that's what makes it such a great area to get lost in. I think that is the best way to see China Town anyway, just to get lost. It's very hard to follow a fixed route on a map any way, unless you stick to the big main roads. But that's when you miss out on all the fun, the alleys are far more interesting. I walked across the market streets and visited one of the temples, but after that returned to the hostel.

Such delicious food!
I had a good exercise in street-crossing though, as the traffic in China Town is really hectic. And I will definitely need a good nerve for street-crossing in Vietnam, so it was useful practice.

I didn't take much time to get used to the heat the previous days, but now it really falls on me. I had to get back to the air con in the hostel to lay down for an hour or so, to rest and cool down. And I had to force myself to drink and drink and drink, because I've been sweating like hell out here. How come nobody else seems to suffer from that. In China town a lady even asked me "You so wet?" while touching my arm with one poky finger. What did she think, that I was faking it? Haha, humidity is really high today, so is the temperature. After my siƫsta I went to Lumphini park to, basically, sit under a tree and watch the world go by.

It was to hot to do anything else, but I don't regret. People watching is always nice, but much nicer still while traveling. There's lots of air in Lumphini, the lakes and the trees and the grass... Just a nice getaway from the business of town, even a bit of wind! And much to gaze at, mainly people doing exhaustive things like running, aerobics, or bicycling in plain sun. They must be crazy! But they're entertaining as well :) And admirable!

In the evening we went to the Singha beer garden to celebrate Ale's birthday and to enjoy the food and the cocktails. It was a lovely night. I still think about it a lot up to today, we had so much fun. The dinner was marvelous and so was the company. I really miss that now I'm back home. It was also my last night in Bangkok, so also a bit sad when we had to say goodbye.

Loveliest people on earth!
At 5am I was already in a taxi again, on my way to the Airport. Cambodia, here I come. Bye bye Bangkok :(

Original post:
Chinatown bezocht vandaag.

Dag dag Bangkok... :(
