Open water certification and Sea Dragons

My first dives, as part of my PADI Open Water certification, at Port Hughes and Rapid Bay.

Dive 1. Port Hughes, South Australia.
Two piece 5mm wetsuit, 20kg weight, surface interval +12, bottom-time 41'. 7m.
Buddy - Russell Liston

Dive Master - Chris Liddiard.

Temperate fish under jetty, pipefish, globefish, cuttlefish. School of yellow-tailed scad.

Highlight - First dive.

 

Dive 2. Port Hughes, South Australia.
Two piece 5mm wetsuit, 20kg weight, surface interval 0:30, bottom-time 54'. 6.9m.
Buddy - Russell Liston

Dive Master - Chris Liddiard.

Colourfish soft algae, saw globefish inflate, 50cm long-snout boarfish, western smooth boxfish, smooth boxfish, smooth toad fish, southern rock lobster, procelain crabs, hermit carbs, patch starfish, southern goat fish, magpie perch, old wives, moonlights, truncate coral fish, shaw's cowfish.

Highlight - Chris scared a Globe fish until it puffed up into a 30cm diameter sphere.

Dive 3. Rapid Bay, South Australia.
Two piece 5mm wetsuit, 20.5kg weight, surface interval +12, bottom-time 38'. 9.3m.
Buddy - Russell Liston

Dive Master - Chris Liddiard.

John Dory, Senator Wrasse, Rainbow Cale, Eastern Blue Groper, Common cuttlefish, Jewel anemone, whiting, snook. Horrible dive due to severe squeeze.

 

Dive 4. Rapid Bay, South Australia.
Two piece 5mm wetsuit, 20.5kg weight, surface interval 0:30, bottom-time 47'. 9.5m.
Buddy - Russell Liston

Dive Master - Chris Liddiard.

11 legged star-fish, weedy sea dragon, conspicuous starfish, black and white nudibranch and Verco's nudibranch.

Highlight - seeing a weedy sea dragon effortlessly rise and sink by controlling its swim bladder, all beauty and grace.

 

Total bottom time = 3:00
