After Telbenin, I hop in a van heading back towards Marrakech.  I figure I’ll probably have to stay the night there… But the van is only going as far as Ait Ourir—which is fine with me.  I can explore Ait Ourir and then take a late night taxi to Marrakech.

It turns out that Ait Ourir is a full fledged city—another should be bold type on the map kind of town… Though not particularly beautiful, it’s bustling and alive.  Having no where else to spend their evening, it looks like half the town is just strolling up and down the wide road leading into town.

And guess what?  Ait Ourir has a hotel!  I ask how much a room is, “300” I’m told…

And how about a non airconditioned room with no bathroom?  The price goes down to 50 dirhams!

The café in the lobby is bursting with spectators fixated on a football game on TV.

Who’s playing? It’s the Confederations Cup—Egypt vs. the USA!  Obviously everyone is rooting for Egypt—despite that Egypt is one of Morocco’s big rivals when it comes to African football… I pretend that I am rooting for the USA—just for the fun of it…

I don’t stick around long though—I want to go out and explore the town… the crowded main drag—past the grand taxi station, market, and even a miniature Jma Fna… On to the edge of town and back again… I follow the road south that stretch on and on… and then try to figure my way back through the alleyways.
Suddenly, the lights go out and the city is plunged into complete darkness… Cool.  Now let’s just hope I don’t wind up in some dead end—or fall into a canal somewhere…

I finally give up on trying to figure out my way through the alleys, and I head back to the main road, where there’s a little bit of light thanks to the car headlights…

I enjoy a good supper of harira and street kebabs… and retire for the night…
