After a bit of a wait, I finally catch a taxi heading up into the Atlas foothills.  Finally a bit of natural beauty.

Demnate is actually a pretty cool town with an interesting old medina, a great backdrop of scenery and a cozy feel as the houses cluster together up along the hillside.  A very nice change from the dusty sprawl I’ve seen over the last two days...

I hike the main road through town—in the gate, wind up the hillside and out the other side...  I keep climbing until I find a great spot to take a clip with a panoramic view...

Then I head back down through the steep winding alleyways, soaking in the vibe.  This’ll be a great place to spend the night... But first, I’ve got to check out the natural bridge a few kilometers up the road...

That Evening...

I come back from Imin Ifni with my new found friend—we head to the house of another friend of his—an artist and musician.

The house is beautifully decorated in a traditional style and there are cool paintings all about.  Clearly they’ve been collecting historical artefacts of the region for quite some time...

We hang out for a while and they of course invite me to stay the night... They are good, clean cut fellows—but I still opt to stay in a hotel instead...

That evening I meet up with them again at a beautiful garden/café/pool at the top of the hill... They give me some great ideas for places to explore in the region.  We wander the alleys of the medina bit more, then I head back home...

The next morning I have to get up early to catch the bus to Azilal—but I still had the chance to explore the medina a bit more.  The walls are crumbling in places, but it still has an ancient, mystical vibe to it...

Good times there in Demnate...
