0338. Beautiful Tetouan (Mor 171--REVISIT)
Tetouan
Back in Tetouan, I soon find a place to stay on the main pedestrian mall in the Spanish downtown area. But before hitting the sack, I took a bit of a stroll and enjoyed one of Tetouans famous mashed potato sandwiches...
I stopped here with a friend on the way to
Tetouan quickly rose to the top and is one of my favourite Moroccan cities... It’s got a little bit of everything—a charming Moroccan medina... right next to it, a European style downtown and pedestrian mall with a lot of great food... some of the best mountain views right from the city... a beach a few miles away... A very modern part of town... and to top that off, the old city is built on these really cool cliffs with the city wall rising straight above natural stone...
Tetouan has it all.
I would still like to hike up to a couple of the neighbourhoods that climb way up the steep mountains—but I’m faced with a bit of a dilemma: I’m really close to finishing parkbenching the entire north side of Morocco, and I’d really like to be able to call North Morocco “completely parkbenched...” so I decide to cut my visit here short and just wander around a couple of the same places I saw with my wife to take some video clips... then I head on my way...
