I follow the gorge to its starting point and turn around... but instead of heading back through Flilou, I find a little goat path up the cliff... Probably won't lead me anywhere--but I decide to take it anyway.  Halfway up, I take another clip with the Flilou orchards peeking out from between the cliffs

Clearly I missed to turn to Ait Serruchen a long time ago--it's off towards the east somewhere... Once I reach to top to a fairly smooth plateau, I figure, hey, why not just head east and see if I can find Ait Serruchen on my own?

So I hike on... Mountains to my right, cliffs and jagged hills to my right... complete solitude...

Even though my whole parkbenching venture is all about cities and towns and people, an occasional hike of total solitude is beautifully refreshing--especially when there's no path and you have hardly an idea where you are.

..

Then I topped a ridge....and there it was... another stream lined with narrow patchworks of orchards and farmlands.  I was back in civilization.

To my right I could see a little village perched on a hill... That might just be my very elusive Ait Serruchen...

Sure enough!  It is.  And it's another gem of a village... completely traditional in its architecture, precariously perched over the stream down below...

But it's getting late, and I still have 7 kms to hike back to Midelt.  I stop one last time outside of town to take one last clip... but my batteries are dead.  I put in my spare batteries--they're no good either... counterfeit batteries... as are all my other spares...

I'm not going to complain, though.  The batteries could've died BEFORE I reached Ait Serruchen...

A couple of guys seeing me fiddling around up on the hillside come to see what's going on... I told them how beautiful I thought the view was and they seemed a little flattered... they offered me a place to stay the night if I wanted... I decided to decline this time, and began my long hike back to Midelt...
