Six months into my new Morocco life, I feel I’ve just got to take a break and try something different. I head south WAY south—overland all the way across the Sahara desert through Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia to discover the joys and perils of playing street music in sub-Saharan Africa. Then I return to Morocco to discover another 100+ towns…

0298. The Village and the Gorge (Mor 131--new)

I reach the edge of Aslim and there's a cliff, a stream and a beautiful orchard valley beyond, so I continue in the same direction.

To cross the stream, there's a wobbly looking log... if I weren't carrying my guitar and camera, I might chance it... I opt to wade across instead...

The scenery is spectacular as the valley gets narrower and narrower... Before long, I see another little village up ahead...

This is Flilou--it seems, they do get occasional trekkers in this parts so seeing a foreigner isn't such a shock.  I get occasional "bonjours" and even an invitation to stay the night...

I follow a footpath up beyond the village to what looks like a rugged little gorge... A farmer points out that the road to the next village is over on the other side of the stream--but I'm intent on exploring this gorge...

It's not the Grand Canyon--but combining the snowy peaks up ahead, the blooming apple orchards behind, and the rocky cliffs in the middle... it's one magnificent little piece of real estate...
