0282. A Windswept Mountain Town (Mor 115--new)

Next town up the road is Mrirt.  Snow on the horizon again, but none up close.  I'm told that just a few days ago the whole area was covered with snow... but it's gone now. I'm beginning to lose hope that I'll be able to see African snow "up close and personal" on this trip.

It's quite chilly here and very much a Berber vibe.  I enjoy a delicious msimin breakfast and head out to expore the town.  I soon reach the north end, pass through a very muddy open air market that's just starting to wake up, and then veer off on road that says "El Hammam". According to the map, it should be about a 9 km hike and I'm debating as to whether or not to try to hike it or not.  I decide not... the landscape is a bit to boring to merit such a hike...

So I head back into town, through a scattering of quite poor looking homes.

A lot of people have their mattresses, blankets--even furniture spread out in front of their homes.  No, it's not a garage sale--my bet is that it's mold and mildew.  With all the precipitation and cold weather, these homes probably stay very damp all winter long--so they're obviously very happy to see a bit of sun...

Head back to the south end of town, climb to the top of the nearest hill to enjoy the panorama... I take one clip with snowy mountains in the background and one clip with the town in the background.

I've still got an itching to discover El Hammam, so head back again to the North End to see if there's any transportation heading that way...
