Episode 03: Sidi Kacem Loop

After 3 days "at home" in Casablanca and I was determined to not lose my momentum--I had another 4 days free and was ready to head out again... but yesterday I woke up sick as a dog... barely able to drag myself out of bed...

Today, I told myself that I'm all better... so I head down before dawn to catch a train up to Rabat and beyond... I reach Kenitra, and quickly hop on a grand taxi to the next unknown town up the road.

Sidi Yahya.

An unremarkable highway stop town with its typical butcher and grill eateries... I wander up to the end of town and back again--hoping my still queasy stomach doesn't act up on me...

Find a nice little plaza with little concrete posts where park benches SHOULD be... play a peaceful little set...

One thing I notice about Sidi Yahya is its shantytowns.  Unlike the typical Morocco concrete block "shanties" with tin roofs with a satellite dish perched on top--Sidi Yahya has REAL shanties--just scraps of miscellaneous pieces of metal or wood slapped together.  Definitely not the kind of place you'd like to live in this cold, rainy weather...

Overall, folks seem rather poor here in Sidi Yahya...
