Six months into my new Morocco life, I feel I’ve just got to take a break and try something different. I head south WAY south—overland all the way across the Sahara desert through Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia to discover the joys and perils of playing street music in sub-Saharan Africa. 0265. A magnificent sunset (Mor 098--new)

I go and retake my clips in Moulay Abdellah and Sidi Bouzid without any major hassles... Now it's time to parkbench some new territory, so I head back to the bus station in El Jadida...

I've got my eyes on Safi, a big city to the south--but it seems like the buses from Casablanca to Safi are all bypassing El Jadida--so after waiting a while, I finally figure I should grab the bus to the junction town of Sidi Smail...

I get there just as a magnificent sunset is painting the sky. I quickly take out my camera to take a picture. A guy mutters to his neighbor "why the hell is that guy taking a picture of a muddy street?"

I guess they don't appreciate sunsets here in Sidi Smail.

I found a stone wall I could rest on--and take a video clip with the sunset in the background...

Not much else remarkable about Sidi Smail--it's few streets are very muddy and dark--making exploring the village after dark  quite treacherous--so after walking along the highway to the edge of town and back again, I head on my way...
