Six months into my new Morocco life, I feel I’ve just got to take a break and try something different. I head south WAY south—overland all the way across the Sahara desert through Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia to discover the joys and perils of playing street music in sub-Saharan Africa. Then I return to Morocco to discover another 100+ towns…

0260. Gambia Border Town (Gam 06--new)

It took me a little while to find "The Old Lit Street that goes to the Port" but i finally found it...

Next morning, was up at dawn to catch the first ferry north... I actually put my jacket on--never thought it would be useful here in The Gambia, but it was a allowed me a much more pleasant ride on top deck in a sharp wind.

At the border, I figured i should spend a little bit more time exploring Gambia before bidding it farewell... so I wandered around the sleepy, very traditional looking village of Amdalaye.

Found a nice shady mango tree to strum under... soon I had company... One girl--maybe sixteen spoke in exceptionally good English... She told me she was an orphan and was being sponsored so she could finish her studies... She hopes to become a doctor...

A nice way to say goodbye to this beautiful country...
