0254. Senegal bordertown (Sgl 06--new)
The road down to the border with Gambia is so bad that in many places the bush taxis just prefer to create their own dirt road over on the side--quite dusty, but at least they don't have the bone jarring potholes.
I took the taxi all the way to the border, but then i figured I'd backtrack on foot to experience Karang and the surrounding countryside. So I followed the dirt paths weaving my way around the little mud hut hamlets, soaking in Senegal's rural charm. Feels so safe compared to my adventure in Kaolack.
No parkbenches around, so i sit on a rock under a tree to strum a few songs for a couple local kids. About a half an hour later, a teacher from a school next door asked if I would mind coming and singing for the children... that was a fun... unfortunately don't have a lot of French songs in my repertoire, but did still manage to get them to sing along to "Everybody needs somebody"--and dance along to all the rest....
...Very charming little adventure here in Karang...
