Hot in Cambodia

We left Bangkok this morning, and have managed to see all of the main sights, we even saw some Thai Boxing - which was good for the novelty factor but otherwise a bit dull :)  After that we had some really good pancakes, so that kinda made up for it.

The journey to Siem Reap was really easy, but very long. We had to get up at 3:45 for a 5 hour train journey on a third class train which was incredibly busy. We finally reached Aranyaprathet and had to share a tuk tuk with someone that we met on a train. This turned out to be really handy as we had to bargain hard to get a reasonably priced taxi to Siem Reap and I'm not sure if me and Kat would have been able to do it on our own, annoyingly you feel so much safer when there's a guy there. Everyone has told me that the journey from Bangkok to Siem Reap is a bit of nightmare because of the road. I managed to sleep though most of it so it was not that bad, just a bit dusty! We avoided getting the notorious scam bus that takes 7 hours so we made it a lot easier on ourselves.

Cambodia is not at all how I expected. We did see some very poor areas on the way up here, but Siem Reap (at least the bit we're staying in) has a number of posh hotels and loads of yummy places to eat. We are going to try and seem some of the temples tommorow (6am start, argh!) It's quite strange as they have street lighting at night but it's only a filament bulb, so you can't see a thing!
