The house on the left edge(before the arch) was the house of J. van den Ban. He designed it for himself. Kampersingel nr. 70

Jacob van den Ban was born in Nieuw Helvoirt at 28 december 1860. He was married to Anna Kater born in Appingedam 29 August 1859.

Jacob van den Ban studied Architecture in Delft he was lectured by E.H. Gugel.  He combined Jugendstill with Renaissance and i have seen neo classistic buildings also from him. Even in furniture he designed you can see this influence.

Haarlem has a lot of interesting buildings, you can take a walk among all those places. this starts at the City hall on the Grote Markt. It takes about one and a half hour. You can also go to the vvv office.

The stepped gable next to Riviervismarkt 11 is also his design build in 1905. He always leaves a mark in the building with the number of the year. On the edge of the Turfsteeg, at Kleine Houtstraat nr. 9 the shop frontage was designed in 1894. Also the Grote Houtstraat nr.4. this frontage is from 1891, with details from the Renaissance period.

The Droste Cacao Fabric with the famous tiles!
(this is close to the Grote Markt).

The famous cacao fabric from the firm, Droste at the Harmenjansweg wich is 1986 part from the Dutch Cacao and Chocolat Compagny, is closed in September 2004. The cacao production is relocated in Amsterdam. In 1897 on the river bank the Spaarne, the chocolate factory from Droste was build. The old part of the fabric was Build by the architect J.vd Ban in 1890. People thougt of it as outstanding because of  the tile picture in the fa├žade, with the well known Droste Nurse. The drawing was develloped by Johannes Musset. I really love the droste pastilles!!

The factory is put on a list for monuments, so it will be preserved for the future generation.

He had a form of cooperation with another architect. This firm was called J.van den Ban and S.Roog.
