It's a Small World After All
Twenty hours in Beijing...what to do? When we landed the crew wanted to get some sleep...understandable because we had just flown all night but unforgiveable because we may never get back to Beijing again!!! I knew if they went for "a nap" all was over so I pushed them to just do a quick change and meet for a trip to the Great Wall.
The drive was about an hour but when we did arrive we were ecstatic! A few problems though, first it was freezing cold so we had to go and negotiate for some more appropriate hats and outerwear. After a bit of haggling we were set. Just a short ski-lift ride to the top and we could walk around the Great Wall - only problem was that ski lift was like a gazillion years old and the wind was ripping. They finally got me on that rickety thing and away we went. Man, I was nervous, that thing was all over the place. Once we did get up there the view was awesome! Although it was cold we had a great clear day for taking pictures and enjoying the scenery. The sheer size of what one can see of this structure is just incredible - and to think it goes on for over 6000 kilometers!
Guess who we met at the top of the wall? Another American...a Texan from right near where both pilots lived - small world!!!
The rooms were luxurious with high-end bedding and every amenity. The hotel is just a block from the Hard Rock Beijing for those that like to visit those restaurants.
Everyone at the hotel were pleasant and helpful. The breakfast in the morning was very good and at a good price.
I believe our room rate was under $100.00 U.S.
Overall, you can't beat this location.
